Not too long ago, Aukje van Gerven jumped feet first into a giant washing machine. Before she jumped she was a legal professional and after the cycle had finished the end result was an author, adventurer and edutainer. She now creates captivating stories and short films from her experiences, to inspire others to seek new challenges and adventures within their personal lives.
Aukje co-founded beetroutein 2008 with the inaugural project The SLOW Journey . The team cycled through Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey and Europe back to the Netherlands. Dutch school children followed this journey and the team delivered live presentations to these classes and other groups upon their return.
Whether camping in subzero temperatures in Canada, paddling a river in New Zealand, climbing Iceland's highest glacier, or cycling acoross a Sudanese desert, Aukje loves an adventure. Read more.
